Frequently Asked Questions

What is SNoG?

The Social Network of Graduates (SNoG) is the peak representative body for graduates, interns and professionals new to Canberra. Since 2003, SNoG has represented graduates working in the Australian Public Service, but now also represents an increasing number of graduates from the private sector.

The SNoG Committee is committed to holding diverse events that provide members with sporting, social, volunteer and cultural opportunities in Canberra. Events are open to members and non-members alike.

Do I have to be a graduate in the APS to be a member?

No we want to include graduates from across the workforce in Canberra. You do not need to be a graduate within the APS to be a member and come to our events.

Why should I become a member?

Membership gives you discounted access to our events but also lets you become part of a network that includes people from all over Australia that are in Canberra. It also gives you perks at some events such as free drinks depending on the event.

Where do membership fees go towards?

SNoG is run entirely by volunteers and fellow graduates like yourself. We are a registered not-for-profit organisation. Membership contributions are our only source of revenue in 2022. Many venues require a deposit to be paid. Your $20 payment allows us to put down deposits and continue the legacy of SNOG.

How can I pay for membership?

You can pay for membership through our sign up links here on the website and social media channels such as Facebook and Instagram. Alternatively, here is a direct link to the registration platform as well: https://www.snogcanberra.com.au/membership.

I have a few concerns about membership or paying for it, who do I contact?

We are here to help you make the most of your membership and if you do have any concerns or need to talk about the membership fees, please contact us at hello@snogcanberra.com.au.

What sort of events does SNoG hold?

We hold all sorts of social events! From trivia to balls to ski trips (we keep going on about it), we want to have a mix of opportunities for you to meet people but also have a great time in Canberra. We hope to expand that to more professional and extracurricular based activities such as networking, advice and more sports-oriented types.

I don’t drink alcohol/drink much, can I still come?

Absolutely! We don’t want to limit our events because of your own circumstances. While we do have quite a few events that will be at bars or establishments that have alcohol, we want you to feel welcome and included. If you are at an event and feel a bit left out, come up and say hi to any of our friendly committee members and we will introduce you to people or even just down for a chat.

Are you events just at bars or venues that have alcohol?

We try to mix up our events to be at all sorts of places. Previously, we’ve had scavenger hunts in the Parliamentary Triangle, Sports Day at Urban Rec and all sorts of things where there is things to do beyond just alcohol and having a chat. If you have any suggestions, do let us know and we will try to cater to all graduates.

How do I get involved with SNoG?

Other than going to events, we have annual elections every year to appoint our next generation of committee members! Our AGM and Committee EOIs usually happen in early March. Keep an eye out and nominate yourself when the time comes. In addition, some events may require additional help and volunteering and we will let everyone know when we need subcommittees and assistance throughout the year.
